Every babe can be the hero of their own story. Every babe can change the world. Come on down to GOFF’s Hero Babes event presented by RRR, and held in the RRR studio’s performance space, with an awesome lineup of films including ‘In The Turn’, ‘Fatenah, ‘Black Panther Woman’, and ‘She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry.’
In the Turn: This film profiles queer skaters across the country, but the focal point of the film is the journey of Crystal, a 10-year old transgender girl from Canada who is not allowed to play sports in her school. Crystal finds a place for herself in the world of roller derby, one of the only organised sports with a trans-inclusive policy that prevents discrimination.
Fatenah: Fatenah is an animation that was liberally inspired by a true story. The original story was re-adapted so that Fatenah could represent any young woman from Gaza that embarks on the arduous journey of seeking medical care which is not available within the Gaza Strip.
Black Panther Woman: In 1972 Marlene Cummins fell in love with the leader of the Australian Black Panther Party. With the break up of that relationship, she spiraled into a cycle of addiction that left her on the streets and vulnerable. Forty years later Marlene travels to a gathering of international Black Panthers in New York. The journey takes her back in time. Still struggling with addiction, she reveals the secrets she has held onto, to face her demons today.
She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry: Resurrecting the buried history of the outrageous, often brilliant women who founded the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971. This film takes us from the founding of NOW, with ladies in hats and gloves, to the emergence of more radical factions of women’s liberation; from intellectuals like Kate Millett to the street theatrics of W.I.T.C.H. (Women’s International Conspiracy from Hell!) Artfully combining dramatisations, performance, and archival imagery, the film recounts the stories of women who fought for their own equality, and in the process created a world-wide revolution.
These sessions will be hosted in conversation with one of our GOFF-mothers, who will facilitate empowering discussion for our hero babes. The GOFF-mothers will be announced on the 22nd of September!

Matilda: Author Roald Dahl’s magical Matilda is brought to life in this 1996 classic film. Young Matilda is gifted in more ways than one; she is small, but she is mighty. Facing oblivious parents and a tyranical principal, Matilda must summon all her courage and use her talents to fight what is wrong, and to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
Bend It Like Beckham: Bend It Like Beckham is a comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal, the importance of best friends, and trying to make it in the world of professional football as a girl when all your parents want you to hang up your footy boots, find a nice boyfriend and learn to cook the perfect chapatti.
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion: Best friends, with the best style, Romy and Michele start to panic when their 10 year high school reunion is coming up, and they realise they might not be living their best lives. The girls set out to show their peers how much they’ve changed since high school and how far they’ve come, even if does mean telling a few white lies.
