tilde

Oh GOFF babes, we’re wrapped for 2015 and miss you already, but we’re delighted to see our friends at tilde returning for their second year. Our screening of In The Turn, a documentary about a 10-year-old transgender girl entering the world of roller derby, was a critical part of our festival and we’re giddy with excitement over tilde’s incredible program, providing an even greater emphasis on the stories of trans and gender diverse people.

Melbourne’s film culture is internationally acclaimed, and tilde is an essential part of that reputation. In a city crowded with film festivals, tilde stands out as distinctive and highly-principled, pushing back against the marginalisation of trans and gender diverse people. The very existence of tilde serves to challenge narrow ideas about gender in the same way that Girls On Film Festival pushes back against the masculine norm. Working together, we chip away at the systems of oppression that seek to silence our voices, and make the world a more respectful and inclusive place.

tilde believes that film has the power to heal, connect, agitate and educate. Stories from and about trans and gender diverse people have historically been marginalised, silenced or distorted. tilde envisions more positive and authentic representations of gender diversity, and more dialogue and sharing of stories between and across communities, both local and global.

YOU ARE THE BEST

Blog Post ImageIts all systems go for this year’s Girls on Film Festival and it’s all because of you darlings! Our hearts at GOFF HQ are exploding with love for all of you gorgeous individuals who made our Pozible campaign an absolute smash hit!  We even raked $1000 more than our target.  We want to thanks every single one you beautiful human beings for making the dream of this year’s festival a reality and we hope you’re practically giddy with excitement to get your special treats at the festival in October!

Now we’ve got our dollars, we’ve got our venue, and the program is all locked in! This year’s line up of films could best be described as an delightful mix bag women on screen that’s so good we’re all having trouble keeping it on the downlow! The GOFF Family are in a tizz, happily organising and spreading our femmo magic to bring three days of movies, parties and feminism to our fave girl gang! It’ll be a kickass whirlwind of weekend that’ll be so much fun you won’t know how to go back to your pre GOFF life.

Our opening night bash is going to be ALL about leather, lace and celebrating women on camera AND behind the lens. We groove on back to the eighties with our opening night feature Desperately Seeking Susan. A female filmmaker classic, Desperately Seeking Susan sees Susan Siedelman direct Rosanna Arquette and the undisputed Queen of Pop, Madonna in this farcical comedy of mistaken identity and misunderstandings. It’s all big hair, fashion goals and delicious tunes. Were thrilled to  “Get into the Groove” and a few of the GOFF Gang have been spotted limbering up to boogy the night away!

At GOFF we embrace being your truest self and cheer for those who lead the fight against inequality everywhere. Because of this belief we’re absolutely rapped to screening In The Turn as the centerpiece of our activism showcase in the Triple R performance space. This acclaimed documentary, directed by award winning director Erica Tremblay, weaves the story of 10-year-old transgender girl, Crystal growing up in rural Canada dealing with small town prejudice and the struggles of the wider LGBTQ community. Crystal finds salvation in The Vagine Regime, a travelling international group of queer roller derby players. This empowering documentary tracks the lacing of Crystal’s identity in the tapestry of other lesbian, transgender and queer skaters as they cross the United States.

We’re less than two months away from GOFF 2015 possums, and we’re already buzzing with excitement! Watch this space for a treasure trove of interesting tidbits and sensational announcements. In the meantime, get your 80s outfits together for GOFF’s opening night shindig.

OMIGOSH.

LIKE A LOVE INTEREST AT THE END OF A ROMANTIC MOVIE, GOFF2015 HAS FINALLY TURNED UP. IT IS STANDING OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW WITH A BOOMBOX.

RECAP: Last year we watched movies, we danced, we made friends and had an amazing time. In all honesty, though, we couldn’t have done it without you. We wanted to bring you the most killer line up of celebratory women figures and directors and you wanted to see that happen. You as viewers and supporters are what made this… Pozible.

So we’re back! With a brand new campaign clip and brand new offers.

Filmed late June, the clip features one stunning Ms Karen Pickering and a swathe of party babes throwing glitter and dancing. I am assured the amount of glitter used in the production temporarily converted a house into a disco ball-like state.

It’s totally killer and cute and everything you’d want in a campaign so have a watch and then #GiveYourMoneyToWomen <3 <3 <3

While you’re perusing the Pozible campaign, you might want to scratch your head for a second and think on if you know of any sponsors who would like to saddle up with us. We are currently scouting good companies with A+ girl power ethics to trade money for various forms of publicity, advertisement and high fives.

Flick us a message via the contact page! We’d love to hear from you.

PEACE, LOVE AND FEMINISM
